Enriching Customer Experience for a FinTech App

Role: Interaction Designer, Illustrator | Platforms: Mobile App

Seamless User flows and custom made elements for a better emotional response in an App targeted for everyday usage of Bank Merchant services.

Challenge

  • To collaborate for the designing of all merchant services provided by an international Bank with the on-site designers.

  • To design efficient features which will lay out an emotional bond between the user and the application.

  • Iterating on varied number of styles and concepts to achieve the business objectives. 

  • A five month retainer model both onsite and offshore, to support the Application design which included app screens, custom illustrations, icon

       creation and development support.

Discovery

The brand values targeted for the application was “modern, simple, easy to use perfect banking partner”. The objectives include emotion which are to be transferred to user with the help of UI elements, especially through the in-app Illustrations.

My role involved collaborating with Business Analysts and Project Module Managers to brainstorm and design for efficient user flows with consistent functionalities throughout all the services offered through the App. In addition to the creation of seamless user experience, my role expanded to an Illustrator where I contributed entirely creating customized in app Illustrations representing the app users' ethinicity and the brand values; where the process started from sketching, creating style guides to Illustrating for multiple concepts.

To fulfill the goal of personalization, transparency, self service feature in the Application, the Illustrations were meticulously tailored from sketches to final designs such that the user can decipher the context of the screens directly from the visuals.

Design

Built a thorough visual guide for the entire Applications' elements to foster consistency amongst the team and for the reference to the upcoming team members.

  • Customization is a key component of banks. Therefore, the zero state screens that have been designed are modified and personalized with the use of characters in order to represent the same. 

  • In order to promote relatability with the native users, the characters that are designed are given the app users' ethnic appearance. 

  • A clean, secure financial environment that benefits users is ensured via transparency. Thus, in the empty states, characters as a family was used to assist build a personal connection with people.

  • Self-explanatory designs are used to convey the self-service feature. The designs are creatively presented while yet adhering to the message's context. In other words, they serve as a metaphor but are not laterally connected. This is so that everyone can understand it.

Delivery

  • With the help of the defined Style Guide, we began with the designing of the modules such as Gold purchase, Recharge, Bill Payments, Insurance and Investments where the user flows were well defined for easy navigation throughout the application.

  • Each module was defined and designed in such a way that it was a Visual guide for the users by itself with help tips and illustrations.

  • Upon completion of each module, clickable prototypes were created using Marvel to support the development team.

Milestones

  • Successfully transformed a 3 month retainer model to an 8 month.

  • Perfectly tailored Illustrations and Icons that suited the business objectives.

  • Suggested intuitive user flows and navigation patterns to engage the users without leaving the application for a third party service.
